The second day of
the Group 1 racedays started with the Listed Oaklands Plate which was
taken out by Eagle Island coming down the outside to defeat Tikiitour
with Leka Secret third. Eagle Island by Fastnet Rock was having
his first start in a race and is from the Victorian stable of David
Hayes. The 2yo Hcp over 1050m was next with Cat Tales too good
coming away to defeat Flyin' For Me with Tycoon Celebrity third.
Cat Tales is from the local stable of Victorian based trainer Mark
Kavanagh was the Tale of the Cat filly was having only her second race
start.
Impulse Buy ran on
strongly in the third race to take his third win in his last 5 starts
defeating Latvian Amber with Exalted William third as SA trainers
provided the trifecta. Gutsy mare Just Sybil returned to form in
the next race where she fought back strongly when challenged and held
off the determined Almighty Bullet to win narrowly with Lady Dynamo
third. Just Sybil is trained by B Mueller and takes her record to
46 starts for 11 wins and 20 placings. El Prado Gold returned to
the winners list in defeating Dee Bee Nine with Pocket Rockets third in
the next. El Prado Gold trained by D&R Balfour made it three races
in a row for local stables and takes his overall record to 20 starts for
4 wins and 8 placings.
The Listed Adelaide
Guineas was next where General Peekay made a determined run along the
inside to gain the upperhand over Goldbya in the shades of the post with
Electric Fusion third. General Peekay is trained by M Price in
Victoria and takes his record to 12 starts for 5 wins and 1 second
placing. The Group 1 SA Derby was next with multiple stakeswinner
Hvasstan looking to atone for two below average runs at the Sydney
carnival while promising local 3yo was looking to emulate Mummify trying
to take out the Chairman's-Derby double. Gerontius had also come
through the ATC Derby where he had run 4th while McNulty and Like a
Carousel had run second and 4th in the VRC St Leger respectively.
Escado's campaign looked to be aimed at the SA Derby after he had run
6th in the VRC Derby in November beaten by only 4 lengths by
Fiveandahalfstar who had been dominating the Sydney carnival until
sidelined with injury. Shoreham and Bel Thor had provided the
quinella in the Listed Galilee Final in Melbourne at their last lead up
run.
In the race itself
in the straight Escado took a run along the inside to hit the lead in
the closing stages to race away and win easily from Hioctdane who ran on
strongly through the field to grab second with Shoreham taking third
just ahead of Gerontius. Escado is from the Victorian stable of M
Laurie and took his record to 14 starts for 3 wins and 5 placings.
IN the
Provincial Series Final Hasta La Shamer made it two in a row in winning
from Full Bore with Super Silks third just ahead of Sacred Snaadee.
Hasta La Shamer takes his record to 17 starts for 6 wins and 8 placings.
