It was back to Jamestown for its once a year race meeting which sees the
Jamestown Cup run. This year I was able to set up a remote camera
under the running rail and tried a few different angles for the races as
can be seen in the photos below. The Canola crop this year
was the highest many have seen and partially blocked the view along the
back even from the officials stands in the home straight (check last
years report for images of race starts and fields along the back - this
was impossible this year).
In race one three horses went to the line together and the photo showed
that Eve's Delight on the inside had held the lead from Falpollo with
Dabamirak third. Eve's Delight is a 5yo mare by Lago Delight from
Life in General (by General Nediym) and took her record to 17 starts for
3 wins and 3 placings. She was ridden by Caitlin Forrest for Paul
Lynch. In the second race Chandlery was making his debut but after
showing plenty of ability in trials was expected to run well. He
did cause some trouble at the barrier but eventually went in and raced
away in the straight to win easily. By Bianconi he is from
Whistling Lass who not only was well performed herself (14 wins) but has
produced Koolkanna Road (11 wins), Flying Merkel (6 wins), winner Charra
Lass and placegetter Better Ark Up from her other 4 to race.
Chandlery made it an early double for jockey Caitlin Forrest riding for
Scott Trenowden.
It was another photo finish
in the third race where Madiba's Vision edged out Happyendo with Miss
Articulate third. Madiba's Vision is a 5yo gelding by Niello from
Dangerous mare Portentous and was coming off a third at Port Augusta.
Ridden by Kate Brooks Madiba's Vision took his record to 16 starts for 2
wins and 6 placings and is trained by Paul Sandford. Yet another
two horse war took place in race four where Big Pond towered over She's
Got Soul but the 4yo mare fought strongly to win from Big Pond who
didn't give up either with a gap to King's Delight third. She's
Got Soul is by Lion Heart from Soul Queen and only recently joined the
stable of Trevor Dansie & Natasha Storr at Morphettville while jockey
Caitlin Forrest made it 3 wins from the four races of the day.
The Jamestown Cup was next and past the post the first time
more than half the field was across the track searching for the lead
while Golden Schnaps dropped back against the fence behind the leading
group. In the straight Golden Schnaps raced clear to win from
Sheik Moh Hand wider on the track with Tasteofenergy third and Fidesdi
fourth. Golden Schnaps is trained by Trevor Day and is an 8yo mare
by Grandera from Tirolita and took her record to 73 starts for 4 wins
and 17 placings. She was ridden to victory by Darren Evans and it
was his first win since recently relocating to South Australia.
The final race was taken out
by Act of Faith along the rails ahead of Dan's A Lady who was outwide
with Retain Belief third. Act of Faith was ridden by Jeff Maund
who replaced Libby Hopwood who was injured earlier in the day when she
parted company with Ondavino in the mounting yard early in the day.
Trained by Brenton Jones Act of Faith is a 6yo mare by Keep the Faith
from Geiger Counter mare Counteract and took her record to 32 starts for
3 wins and 6 placings.
