2023 Adelaide Equestrian Festival

20-23 April 2023

Photos can now be ordered directly from the proof page below and in a streamlined ordering system they should be printed a lot faster than in the past.  High resolution images can be downloaded at ordering after payment is made.  Please note all proofs have been named and are loaded in competitor number order.

Please note the system will ask you for a contact email address - this is used for tracking the order as it is processed from ordering to being posted out on the 'behind the scenes' admin pages. 

Payment is via paypal/credit card after selecting your images please go to the shopping cart and pay through the paypal system - it is only at this stage that the order is put through and processed otherwise they sit in the shopping cart until you finish the order.  Download images should be available once payment is made other prints should be received within a week (if not please contact me to chase up).

If you prefer to order via bank deposit or cheque please favourite the selected images and email me but please ensure that you put a read receipt on your contact email.


PHOTO PROOFS LINK ADELAIDE EQUESTRIAN FESTIVAL

The rebranded Adelaide Equestrian Festival finally returned after 3 1/2 years to a new date now in April as the car race moved to the end of the year. Under cloudy skies the action got underway with the Racing SA sponsored 3 star class where the field including a number of off the track thoroughbreds.  At the end of the day Oliver Barrett and Sandhills Special were in the lead on 26.1 from Jess Somerfield & Finch Farm Carpentaria on 27.3 with Teegan Ashby & Magic Mushroom TAE in third place on 28.9.  Magic Mushroom TAE is a off the track thoroughbred and was named Dragon Flame but was unraced.

Friday saw the 4 star competitors in action where Olivia Barton & Henrik APH finished in the lead on 25.6 just ahead of Shenae Lowings & Bold Venture on 25.9.  Bold Venture raced unsuccessfully as Hell On Wheels and was retired after only 3 starts.  In third placed was Cathryn Herbert on Wimborne Constable on 27.6

The 5 star dressage was the focus of the afternoon where there were 16 competitors including a third of the field off the track thoroughbreds.  New Zealander Monica Spencer & Artist stunned onlookers with their amazing test finishing on 24.  Artist was bred to race and although unnamed took part in several barrier trials before moving onto an equestrian career as a 3yo.  IN second place was Sam Lyle & BF Valour on 25.6 while Shane Rose was in third place with the Tinney's Be My Daisy on 26.4 and also fourth place with Virgil on 28.1.  IN fifth position was Diane Gilder and Your Attorney an off the track thoroughbred who had 1 trial and one race start before retirement.

Saturday was cross country and as expected there was a shake up in placings.  In the 3 star event overnight leader Oliver Barrett & Sandhills Special went clear jumping but 2 time penalties however held their lead on 28.1  Erin Callahan & Danson Lincoln moved up to second with a clear run remaining on 29.6 with Molly Lines & Tadpole moving up to third place going clear on 30.9.  Tadpole is an off the track thoroughbred and after being sold through the Adelaide Magic Millions sales lates raced as Liquid Courage for 5 unplaced runs.  Jess Somerfield & Finch Farm Carpentaria went clear jumping but recorded 5.2 time penalties to drop to 4th place on 32.5. Teegan Ashby & Magic Mushroom TAE were unfortunately eliminated with a fall of rider at the very last fence on course.

In the 4 star class Shenae Lowings and Bold Venture moved up to take the lead after jumping clear but recording 8.4 time penalties to be on a score of 34.3.  In second was Andrew Cooper & Sharvalley Thunder who moved up after a clear run over jumps and 6.8 time penalties to be on 38.5 with Cathyrn Herbert & Wimborne Constable in third place after going clear on jumping but recording 11.6 time penalties for a score of 39.2.  Overnight leader Olivia Barton & Henrik APH had a fall of rider at the second element of jump 17 the SA LIfe Brush Corners.

In the 5 star Shane Rose and Virgil took over the lead with just 0.4 of a time penalty to be on 28.5 ahead of Sam Lyle & BF Valour who jumped clear but recorded 8 time penalties to finish on 33.6 with Shane Rose also finishing the day in third with Be My Daisy on 36.8 after jumping clear but recording 10.4 time penalties.  Overnight leader Monica Spencer & Artist had a fall of rider at the second element of fence 4 the Horse & Country TV Oxers in the new part of the course in Victoria Park.  Diane GIlder & Your Attorney jumped clear but recorded 15.2 time penalties moving to 6th as Kenya Wilson & Sandros Salute MW moved up to 4th with just 1.6 time penalty to be on a score of 37.3 and another off the track thoroughbred Sophia Hill's Humble Glory moved up to 5th after a clear round on time and jumping.  Humble Glory raced as Camon Houdini who after showing nothing in trials in Sydney he was sent to Melbourne as a 3yo where he won and was placed in trials over hurdles.  However after one jumps start as a March 3yo where he was unplaced he was retired to an equestrian career.

Into the last day of showjumping and first up the 3 star event was decided with Oliver Barrett & Sandhills Special going clear on time and jumping to win on 28.1.  Oliver Barrett also took out the Young Rider Award.  Second went to Erin Callahan & Danson Lincoln on 29.6 after also going double clear.  Jess Somerfield & Finch Farm Carpentaria  also went double clear to finish third on 32.5.  The winner of the VRC Off the Track award for the highest placed OTT thoroughbred went to Molly Lines & Tadpole who had a 2 rails to finish on 44.5.

In the four star event Shenae Lowings & Bold Venture went clear jumping and just 0.4 time fault held on to win with 34.7.  Second went to Andrew Cooper & Sharvalley Thunder who had one rail to finish on 42.5 with Cathryn Herbert & Wimborne Constable third also with one rail on 43.2.

The 5 star class finished the day and coming to the last rider you could have heard a pin drop as Shane Rose & Virgil entered the ring.  A faultless display followed with Shaen Rose & Virgil finishing in first place on their cross country score of 28.5.  In second place Sam Lyle & BF Valour had a rail down but had enough in reserve to hold second place on 38.  Sophie HIll & Humble Glory moved up from 5th with a double clear round to take third place on 40.9 & the VRC award for the highest placed thoroughbred.  Shane Rose & Be My Daisy was 4th on 44.8 after knocking two rails while 5th went to Kenya Wilson & Sandros Salute MW from Murray Lamperd & Secret Mojo who with one rail finished on a score of 74.5 moving up from 10th.  Secret Mojo raced 4 times for 2 seconds before being retired.  Diane Gilder & Your Attorney knocked several rails to finsih on a score of 76.1 in 7th position.

With the record attendances planning is already well underway for the next Adelaide Equestrian Festival and dates have already been announced as 18 - 21 April in 2024.
