entire field competition was tight going into the cross country phase.
In the 3 star dressage A Ross and Dicavalli Diesel took the end on 31.50
penalties from D Stokes and Koyuna Levi on 33.70 and S Rose & Ultimate

and A Ross & Dondiablo on 31.60 with C McDermott & Klydoscope next on 31.80
and again 20 penalty points covered the entire field of 47 competitors.
Cross Country day provided plenty of changes on the leaderboards and some
controversy. In the 4 star K Taliana & Trevalgar II looked to be
travelling well until they made a mistake and parted company coming through
the Equestrian Australia Ditch and Brush. E Bishop & CP Issey Miyake
were going well until the second time through the water where CP Issey
Miyake was slightly distracted before take off by volunteer chasing away the
ducks and although back on track for the take off into the water missed the
third element for 20 penalties. Another refusal later on course plus
time penalties resulted in an overall score of 99.90 and dropping back to
8th position. L Browne & Skye's Da Limit also had a couple of stops
and time penalties resulting in an overall score of 107.90. H Shannon
& Willungapark Clifford recorded 17.60 time penalties to finish the cross
country on 51.50 penalty points in second position while A Pottinger & Just
Kidding also only incurred time penalties of 12.4 to finish on 47.20 and the
lead onteh second day. E Gray and Jocular Vision were the stars of the
cross country finishing with the lowest penalties with only 9.6 time on a
challenging course and sitting in third on 67.30 after being last after the
dressage. S Johnson and Misty Isle Valentino had one refusal and 13.20
time to finish on 67.80 and 4th place. In the end the course clamed
half the field with only 12 combinations making it through to compete on the
third and final day.
The 3 star cross country wasnt quite as dramatic but still saw a lot of
changes on the leaderboard. A Ross and Dicavelli Diesel jumped clear
but recorded 36.40 time penalties to drop to 8th position on 67.90 while D
Stokes and Koyuna Levi was eliminated early on course. S Rose &
Ultimate Velocity went clear jumping and just 4.4 time penalties to take the
lead on 40.10 penalty points from Callum Buczak & Matavia Cheval who were
the best of the 3 star moving up from 11th going clear jumping and just 1.2
time penalties for a score of 41.90 while A Cooper & Oaks Onyx moved up from
12th with only 10.8 penalties for a score of 53.60 in third place. In
the two star R Lee & Urodel Du Texier had a refusal on course and also
incurred 19.6 time penalties for an overall score of 70.6 penalty points.
C Lyall & Gi Joe had to retire after pulling up sore on the flat between
jumps while A Ross & Dondiablo recorded 3.6 time penalties to drop to 5th on
35.20 and C McDermott & Kyldoscope were eliminated during the cross country.
The new leader of the event after the cross country phase was S Jeffree &
Jaybee Calypso on 33.10 after going clear on both jumping and time with E
Mason & Aramatai Fox moving up from 5th to 2nd with 1.6 time penalties to
34.40 while Shane Rose & Easy Turn moved up from 12th to 3rd going clear and
likewise Niki Rose returning to the event after several years absence riding
Glenorchy South Park also went clear to move up from 14th to 4th place.
Into the final phase the showjumping where in the four star H Shannon &
Willungapark Clifford had 8 faults from two fences to finish on 59.50 and
came from second to take out the event from A Pottinger & Just Kidding who
had 3 fences leeway from H Shannon but knocked four rails to just miss
making it a second win in a row for New Zealand finishing on 63.20 while S
Johnson & Misty Isle Valentino was third on 78.80 and E Gray and Jocular
Vision 4th on 80.30 after three tough days of competition. In the
three star class S Rose & Ultimate Velocity were also in second place before
record one rail and 2 time penalties for a score of 46.10 but when leaders C
Buczak & Matavia Cheval knocked two rails for a score of 49.90 it was a
popular victory for the crowd favourite. A Cooper & Oaks Onyx had a
rail down to finish third on 57.60. In the 2 star class S Rose & Easy
Turn went double clear to finish on 34.90 while the only other double clear
(rails and time) of the class was S Tinney & Leporis who finished second on
36.90 and moved up from 7th. Third went to E Mason & Aramatai Fox on
38.40 after knocking one rail while N Rose & Glenorchy South Park were
fourth after also knocking a single rail on 39.00.
The Young Rider Championship was taken out by S Landy & Humble Glory from
local rider S Hann & True Celebre. Humble Glory raced as Camon Houdini
and after one run on the flat showed some ability in a hurdle trial but
after one jumps start was retired over three years ago before he arrived to
S Landy with minimal equestrian training but was soon competing with success
in eventing.
The winner of the 4 star TRSA Off the Track award was Willungapark Clifford
who
was registered to race as Sidespin but in two trials as an
early season 2yo in October 2007 he proved too slow to race and was retired.
In
the 3 star class the TRSA Off the Track award went to Belinda Isbister's
mount Here To Stay with a total of 70.40 penalty points and 5th overall. Here to Stay is by Johar from Strike the Belle (by
Straight Strike) was bred in New Zealand and raced as Spookles. He
trialled twice as a 2yo before making his debut in late December as s 3yo in
a Maiden at Ellerslie. He was unplaced and was then given a let up
before running last in his second race in March 2011 at Waikato.
Spelled he was given one more prep where he was unplaced in a trial in
November 2011 before he was retired to an equestrian career.
