This year the tour of several SA
studs offering yearlings at the upcoming Adelaide Magic Millions sale
got away just about on time and it was soon off to Balcrest Stud for the
first group of yearlings for the day. Below are photos of Lot 53,
116, 253, 324 and 352. Lot 53 is a colt by Written Tycoon from
Ambola who has produced 4 winners from 7 to race including the talented
Ambika who is now at stud herself. Lot 116 is a filly by Canford
Cliffs with his oldest Australian bred progeny currently 2yos from
Desiring who has had two to race both winners including Idatwo.
Lot 253 is a colt by Hinchinbrook from the stakeswinning Pipkin who has
had 3 to race including the multiple winner Host of the Party. Lot
324 is a colt by Magic Albert from Tureen a half sister to Pipkin and a
multiple race winner who is yet to be represented on the track.
Lot 352 is a filly by the multiple Group 1 winner Rebel Raider from race
winner Cherilyn and is her first foal.
Willowgrove Stud was the next stop on the tour where 12 yearlings were
presented to the group. Below are photos of Lot 9, 247, 254, 256,
327, 349, 370, 382 and 439. Lot 9 is a filly by Magnus from Tiger
Eye's who has had 3 to race for 2 winners. Lot 247 is a colt by
Magnus from the race winner Penny Opera who has had 5 to race for four
winners. Lot 254 is by resident stallion Host from race winner
Play Mizzty For Me who has had two foals both by Host and have raced and
are winners. Lot 256 is a colt by resident stallion Mint Lane from
Ponting Da Girl who has had one previous foal also by Mint Lane who has
raced and is a winner. Lot 327 is a colt by Mint Lane from Scenic
mare Watch The Fence who is yet to be represented on the racetrack but
was a multiple winner herself. Lot 349 is a colt by Mint Lane from
the Hussonet mare Carpe Jugulum who has had one to race who is a winner
and is also by Mint Lane. Lot 370 is a filly by Mint Lane from
Fantastic Dream who was a multiple race winner and her only foal to race
is a full brother to this yearling and is a winner. Lot 382 is a
colt by Mint Lane from multiple winner Gaze at Gold. From the
family of Amber Gaze, Bargambler, Sublimate, etc Gaze at Gold has
produced 6 to race for four winners. Lot 439 is a colt by Mint
Lane from the race winning Shalini. Shalini is a half sister to
Red Hope and from the family of Aviate and has produced 4 to race for
three winners including the multiple winner El Mirage.
The final stop of the morning was Turnagain Horses at Springton where 10
yearlings were brought out for the group. Below are photos of Lot
37, 326, 354, 360 and 449. Lot 37 is a colt by Street Boss from
the More than Ready mare Wurood and this is her first foal. Lot
326 is a colt by Poet's Voice from Vonrob who was a multiple race winner
but is yet to be represented on the track. Lot 354 is a colt by
Good Journey from Chomp by Flying Spur and this is her first foal and is
from the samily of Keen Commander, La Cadeau, etc. Lot 360 is by
Turffontein from Delightful Dale who won 7 races herself on the track
and has produced two to race for one winner and one placegetter.
Lot 449 is a colt by Turffontein from the Bluebird mare Southern Petrel
who has had 3 to race including the multiple winner Odysseo and is from
the family of Rancho Spark, Sparks Fly, Sculpture's Blue, etc
Then it was time to stop for lunch at The Company Kitchen at Angaston
who again as last year provided the group with a wonderful lunch before
it was time to head off again for the afternoon stud visits.
Cornerstone Stud was the next stop where 29 yearlings were presented to
the group. Below are photos of Lot 28, 90, 127, 147, 203, 218, 271
and 310. Lot 28 is a colt by resident stallion Good Journey from
Violet Haze who has had 4 to race and all are winners including the
stakeswinner Sino Brilhante (12 wins and also by Good Journey) and
Schoorwin (15 wins). Violet Haze is from the amazing producer Lady
Violet (18 foals, 14 to race for 12 winners) and is a sister to Notoire
and a half to two other stakeswinners. Lot 90 is a colt by Exceed
and Excel from the Sadler's Wells mare Celtic Queen who has had 6 to
race for 5 winners including two stakesplaced. Lot 127 is by
resident stallion Hussonet from Encosta De Lago mare El Shahar who is
yet to be represented on the track but is from the family of Zipanese,
Zip Zip Aray, Niconero, Nicconi, Wild Rampage, etc Lot 147 is a
filly by Redoute's Choice from Bel Esprit mare Gabbidon. Gabbidon
was a stakeswinner and is from the family of Kate's Myth, Brosberg,
Speedy Kids, Falls the Shadow, etc and has had two to race for two
placegetters. Lot 203 is a filly by Choisir from Louis Leggs who
has produced 3 to race for two winners. Lot 218 is a filly by
Master of Design who sired the equal topseller at this sale in 2015 and
is from Miss Doopsy who won 8 races herself and has produced 7 to race
for Six winners including the stakesplaced Little Bit Ditsy and is from
the family of Hollow Bullet, Last Bullet, Red Hot Mama, etc. Lot
271 is a filly by Hussonet from the Danzero mare Renounceable who is yet
to be represented on the racetrack but is from the family of Vouvrey,
Real Success, Alzao, Bolton, etc. Lot 310 is by Good Journey from
Jeune mare Sunflame and is bred along similar lines to stakeswinner
Jim's Journey. Sunflame is yet to be represented on the racetrack
but is from a star studded family including Asarka, Bradshaw, Freemason,
Sashed, Undue, Shaybisc (3rd dam), Debrief, Absurd, Malibu Magic, etc
The next stop was at the nearby Goldin Farms where resident stallion
Akeed Mofeed currently has his first crop on the ground to be prepared
for the 2017 sales. Nine yearlings were shown to the group and
below are photos of Lot 6, 61, 82 and 89. Lot 6 is a filly by
Testa Rossa from The Last Shout and this is her first foal from the
family of Sojustrememberthis, Fouradee, Gamine, Molokai Prince, Century
etc. Lot 61 is a filly by Snitzel from Arrival and is the second
living foal of the dam who is from the family of Firenza, Tuscan Sling,
Loveyamadly, etc. Lot 82 is a colt by I Am Invincible from More
than Ready mare Calemore who has had 2 to race for a winner (Unyielding
also by I Am Invincible) and a placegetter. Calemore is from the
family of Lady of the Pines, Caledonian Boy, Vigil, Heaps of Fun, etc.
Lot 89 is a filly by Hinchinbrook from multiple winning Stratum mare
Celebration Girl and this is her first living foal from the family of
Vestey, Ideal Planet, Legally Bay, Twirled, Noted, etc.
Tosca Farm was the final stop on the tour and their yearlings can be
found in the Cornerstone Stud barn at the sales. Below are photos
of Lot 115, 266, 346 and 347. Lot 115 is a colt by Street Boss
from Dee Dee Miss who is yet to be represented on the racetrack with
this colt her second foal but is from the family of Escena, Claxton's
Slew, etc. Lot 266 is a filly from the first crop of Exceed and
Excel stallion Instinction from the Reset mare Refix who has had two to
race for two winners including the stakeswinner Fixation and is from the
family of Stormy Dawn. Lot 346 is a colt by the first season
stallion Rockaroundtheclock (by Fastnet Rock) from the Rustic Amber mare
Brown Limestone who has produced 4 to race for three winners including
the stakesplaced Nordic Empire plus multiple winners Bianconic-Future
Baby (Singapore) and Old Worlde. Lot 347 is a filly by Good
Journey from Montjeu mare Burgundy Notes and this is her first living
foal. Burgundy Notes is from the family of Tudor Trail, Nordic
Empire, Pure Ready, Tudor Melody, etc.
Then it was time for the bus to take us back to the Adelaide Magic
Millions complex arriving only 10 minutes after the scheduled timing
which when including the variables of inspecting horses and traffic was
an amazing job. Magic Millions staff were as usual very well
organised and made sure the day went without a hitch and keeping
everyone on the bus well hydrated on what turned out to be a very warm
day weatherwise too.
The Adelaide Magic Million Yearling sale takes place March 14-16 with
the first session held on the evening after the Adelaide Cup race
meeting. Jenny Barnes is due to attend all three days and is
available to photograph yearlings for any conformation photos required
for $30 per horse with discounts for bulk lots. Other photos taken
